Golf is a game that often can often become such a mental fog that one finds they can’t get their game off of a particular plateau. This is often because the game calls for contradictory motions, particularly when striking the ball. The concept of hitting down to get more loft on a ball is a perfect example. Let’s take a closer look.

Despite what you may hear, the primary notions of physics are fairly straight forward. We know them without thinking about them. Let go of a golf ball and it will drop from your hand to the ground per the rules of gravity. It all seems so simple, but golf is really hard because playing well requires us to subvert these basic notions.

The concept of hitting down on a ball to get loft is one that just makes no sense. If you look at the club, the head is angled back. For all the world, this would seem to suggest that driving the head under and then up through the ball would create the most loft. I probably don’t have to tell you that this is not true.

To get loft, you must drive down on the ball. The reason has to do with the club design. The angled face of the club you are using is designed to strike the ball in such a way as to artificially create loft. This only happens if you hit down on it. By hitting down on it, I am referring to the portion of your swing when you should hit the ball. You should still be driving the club in a downward motion. The angle of the club head will take care of moving the ball in an upward motion, but the power of the shot will come from the downward motion.

So, why doesn’t the ball just get driven into the ground? Well, it sort of does. It will actually compress a bit because it is trapped between the club head and the ground. The only place for it to go is back up the club head. As it does this, it will release energy that is added to the shot.

Hitting down on the ball to generate loft is mentally uncomfortable. Try practicing it. Position yourself forward of the ball in such a manner that you can’t help but hit down on the ball. Exaggerate your position if you must. Once you feel the impact and see the result, you’ll understand that the technique works. From there, it is just a matter of endless practice to nail down the perfect technique!

It made me realize once again that the majority of people (who do not know what hypnosis really is) jump to this same incorrect conclusion.

Scientific research has in fact proven that hypnosis creates activity in a different part of the brain from that which is related to the placebo effect. Hypnosis is a very powerful tool in enhancing anything which involves using your mind, and golf has got to be the most mental game there is. Hypnosis is incredibly effective in helping you to get your mind around golf and to acquire the calm focus which this great game inevitably requires.

But let’s not knock the placebo effect either. The placebo is no little thing to be dismissed as insignificant. The placebo has enormous power. In drug studies it is acknowledged that the placebo effect is seen in 20 – 30% of participants; this is not to be “sniffed at”. The fact is that simply by thinking that something will work, it will indeed work for 20 – 30% of the population. It really does pay to be a believer, or to have a positive expectation.

Your mind works in such a way that if you expect something to happen, this is generally what you will subsequently see. The suggestions used by golf psychologists and golf hypnotists take advantage of this basic fact. If you know how your mind instinctively works you can make a choice to take advantage of it. To ignore the placebo effect is, to be perfectly honest, extremely wasteful and I would venture to say rather stupid.

And to brush aside golf hypnosis as “just a placebo” compounds that wastefulness even further. Hypnosis is a natural state of relaxation. In learning to use hypnosis you learn how to calm and relax yourself in an instant; this is pretty useful in the game of golf. Hypnosis provides access to your subconscious mind which is the part that acts instinctively and automatically, and it therefore enables you to program your mind to focus upon aspects of golf in the way in which you might like. Hypnosis provides a state of heightened awareness and focus which once again is more than a little bit helpful when you are playing golf.

I could go on and on about how golf hypnosis is the very best way in which to straighten out your game and sink those putts, but I think you know by now where I’m coming from! Please don’t dismiss golf hypnosis as “just a placebo” and do not dismiss the placebo effect either. Why not try it for yourself? The proof of the pudding is in the eating, and this is a particularly delicious pudding!

You must pay attention to the three keys?correct setup, proper technique and consistent point of entry.

The start of the backswing should be straight back or slightly outside the target line. There is an immediate breaking of the hands as you start this motion, producing a more vertical swing which encourages the club to enter the sand about two inches behind the ball (this is the point of entry)

What you are actually trying to do is to take as little sand as possible without contacting the ball. Allow the sand to lift the ball from the bunker. (You can work on getting a consistent point of entry with the Point of Entry Drill described here.)

As you make contact with the sand there should be a cupping of the left wrist. Let me explain “cupping.” Assume you are wearing a watch on your left wrist and the face, as usual, is pointing outward. When contacting the sand on the forward swing, you should try to take the back of your left hand and move it towards your watch face, thereby creating wrinkles underneath your left wrist. This action is called “cupping of the wrist” and it is very necessary in producing quality sand shots. Since this motion prevents the club from closing, the ball is lifted in the air with backspin.

These are the three most important things regarding sand play around the greens. You don’t have to be perfect to get out of a sand bunker, but you have enough of the basic principles to get started.

As an golf nut, I’d like to share one key element to the golf game that a lot of us amateurs miss in our golf swing. So many golf tips focus on the mechanics of the golf swing, or some technical aspect of certain moves, or focus on the hands, wrists etc, etc, etc. But for so many of us if we would start with a big focus on tempo, we would be amazed at the results.

Think about the golf swing itself. Unless you are just an absolutely gifted athlete with exceptional hand to eye coordination, the golf swing is basically complicated and very hard to master. That is one of the reasons that I focus on different things in my golf tips for amateurs. But if you combine that with the fact that most golfers swing way too fast, the results can be disastrous.

Look at it this way. If you break down the golf swing and really think about what you are attempting to do it can boggle your mind. You are attempting to put a very small white ball squarely on the face of a moving object that is only about 4-6 inches in size. And that moving object is at the end of a long pole that is whipping and flexing as it moves through the golf swing. So it only makes sense that the faster you move that object, the harder it will be to get it squarely on the golf ball. And, by the way, it must be facing in the correct direction when contact is made.

I believe that it was PGA golfer Davis Love who said that one of his key golf swing thoughts was focusing on 80%. In other words, he thinks about swinging at 80% of his normal swing speed. When I tried this the first time, it really worked. Especially for a golfer like me. Because one of my big tendencies is to gradually speed up my swing as I progress though a round. It’s not intentional, but it seems to happen quite a bit if I am not thinking about my tempo.

Now this may sound simple, but in fact it is. I recommend keeping your swing thoughts simple and having no more than two. And I strongly recommend that one of them be about smooth and easy tempo. Now some people like images or one word phrases to keep it simple. For example a golf buddy of mine use the word “buttery” to focus on slow, easy tempo. And that’s a great phrase if you might be more of a feel type player.

A quick drill to help with getting the feel for smooth, easy tempo is to go to the practice range and get a few golf balls ready to hit. Then take an iron and take about 3 practice swings with one arm (your right for example if you are right handed) focusing on slow and easy. Then hit one or two golf balls the same way, with one arm slow and easy. This will start to give you a feel for the tempo you are looking for. Then repeat this process.

After doing that process a few times, take a normal swing with both hands, again focusing on smooth and easy. You should find the tempo feels really good and you will make solid contact with the golf ball. Keep this a part of your practice and pre round routine and you should see a big difference in your tempo and your game!

The game of golf is rightly an original game. The fundamentals are the identical for all; all the same, unpaid to the distinctness in peoples figure kind no two citizens will eternally have the identical golf motion. Every one human being will have to condition their bodies to act upon a suitable golf motion in their private method. Taking the occasion to produce your private system of singing golf will considerably make better your enjoyment and victory at the game. Practicing the primitive brass tacks of the game as far as they are embedded in your strong arm will prime to belief in oneself on the classes, and that belief in oneself will advantage to triumph and sensuality of the game.

Solitary of the nearly everyone chief act that you can set into skirmish and see an instantaneous increase to your golf motion is to manage your chief yet and survey right at the sphere. The pose of your move should be fair in row with your chine, and your nose should be increase up a small piece so that while you make to motion, your not here shoulder equip under your chin. Several competitors tuck their heads into their chests to effort and manage their heads yet and survey fair below at the golf sphere. Unhappily, they cannot act a suitable golf motion during in this perception.

If you are individual of the several that are having exertion keeping your supervisor fair and an eye on the sphere effort the coming. The subsequently period you contact the sphere, believe the actual position with your feet and knees in side however manage your start and back fair, bend send on vaguely at the waist and survey fair at the sphere. If you effort and share a motion in this side, your not here shoulder will generally hopeful destroy your chin.

During keeping your eyes on the sphere, increase your head unhurriedly as far as your left shoulder does not attack your chin. Succeed really that your top does not change from surface to boundary by keeping your eyes fixed on the sphere. Unhurriedly go off through the backswing and downswing part of your golf motion. Do not attack the sphere and do the go along with through. Usual procedure this position of your golf motion attract on keeping your head fair and eyes on the sphere.

Usual procedure this work out in your play area for about 25 period in a row and then share a rest and relax a fragment, then make again. Produce smaller chastisement to your top and figure view as wanted to manage your eyes fair on the sphere and your left shoulder from hitting your chin.

This keep fit will “train” your figure, and your muscles will call up the actual position you need to be in to work the activity properly. Contemplate about a few games athlete, they develop and develop to rank their figure in the actual position and set to appropriately carry out the schedule basic to be flourishing in their individual game. You are liability the identical machine by “training” your figure to manage your top fair and view itself so that you can profitably accomplish a suitable golf motion.

Any more fundamental action that cans production considerably on the way to civilizing your golf motion is to relax. I understand information it is clear said then completed, particularly when you are getting set to place all your capability into drive with an playgoers of either your coadjutor, or finer yet your links who will not permit you not remember it if you disorder up.

Tiger Woods has dominated golf, as we know. We will enter a new decade and look back on the past one, woods is dominating golf. Who will be the one to challenge Woods in future?

Look back to last decade, we can find the biggest storylines in golf. Tiger Woods is on the top.

1. The Tiger Slam. It started in June at the 2000 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, where Tiger Woods tied or set nine U.S. Open records on his way to a 15-stroke victory. It ended the following April with Woods winning the Masters to become the first player in the modern era to hold all four major championship trophies at once. In between, Woods set a record for the lowest score in relation to par at a major with a 19-under total at the Open Championship at St. Andrews before a dramatic playoff victory over Bob May at the PGA Championship at Valhalla. And that was just at the majors. In all, Woods set or tied 27 TOUR records and won nine times on TOUR in 2000, including at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, where he rallied from seven strokes back in the final round.

2. Tiger’s 2008 U.S. Open win. It was arguably the greatest victory in the history of golf, Woods winning at Torrey Pines on practically one leg. What no one outside of the Woods camp knew was that he was playing with a completely torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. What also made Woods’ 14th career major championship memorable, of course, was the mano-a-mano tone it took down the stretch and into an 18-hole Monday playoff and then sudden death against Rocco Mediate. It was a classic David vs. Goliath match-up with Goliath winning thanks to Woods making every shot he had to make when he had to make it. The other significance of it was that it would be the last time we would see Woods in 2008 before he underwent season-ending surgery. How he would recover from that was answered rather resoundingly in the form of six victories and another FedExCup title in 2009 to close out the decade.

3. David Duval’s decline. One of only two players to be ranked No. 1 in the world in the Tiger era (See No. 4 for the other), Duval’s decline was almost as precipitous as his rise. Five years after reaching the top spot in the Official World Golf Ranking and three years after winning the 2001 British Open, Duval dropped to 520th — from 15th just two years earlier. As the missed cuts continued to pile up, Duval fell all the way to 882nd before coming out of nowhere to finish second at the 2009 U.S. Open, where he was a sectional qualifier and subsequently climbed more than 700 spots in the OWGR to 142nd. As we turn to a new decade, however, Duval is without a TOUR card after finishing outside the top 125 on the 2009 money list.

4. Vijay Singh shows there is life after 40. So often it’s been wondered how many major championships others would have if not for Tiger Woods. Ernie Els immediately comes to mind, in part, because of his three runners-up in 2000, but it’s Vijay Singh who ranks second on TOUR in victories and top-10s over the last decade with 26 and 118, respectively. Singh is also the other player to be ranked No. 1 during the Woods era. Els? He had nearly one-third fewer wins with nine during that same period. What makes Singh’s run in the aughts so amazing is that 22 of those victories came on the other side of the age of 40, which Singh turned in 2003. That’s five more than legend Sam Snead, who ranks second on that list. Singh’s work ethic is beyond legendary and the fruits of his labor paid off better than nearly anyone’s over the last decade.
